Hiking

Easily my favourite activity on two feet. Hiking takes you to some wonderful places with incredible scenery, and you don’t always have to travel all that far to find it. Sure, trail running does the same, but everything feels more relaxed with hiking, and you have time to pick your head up and take a look at your surroundings rather than constantly watching your feet to ensure that you don’t kick a rock and end up with your face on the trail. That’s enjoyment for a different reason. I also get to share hiking adventures with Rebecca, which is an added bonus.

Below are all posts relating to my/our hikes. I give loose details on routes, including parking suggestions, but I stop short of providing detailed step-by-step instructions. I feel this encourages one to be lazy, and removes the motivation to fully understand your route and being able to navigate on the fly. Say I provide step-by-step instructions, but accidentally miss out a stile or a gate. If a reader was following my instructions, they could then end up on the wrong path and potentially lost. I’m not ready for that responsibility. When I’m out hiking, I’m not making mental notes of which turns I take, so that I can retell the exact journey later on.

For that reason, I feel more comfortable providing loose details, and it’s up to the reader to take on the responsibility of ensuring accurate navigation. If you do have any questions though, or seek clarification on anything, do please get in touch, and I’ll do my best to help.
